No Halloween party is complete without some fantastically gross offerings and these Dirt & Worm Cookies are just the thing!

Ingredients

For the Cookies

  • cup unsalted butter softened
  • cup light brown sugar
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 Tbsp light corn syrup
  • 1 Tbsp pure vanilla extract
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour plain flour
  • 1 cup dark cocoa powder
  • 1 Tbsp cornstarch cornflour
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp kosher salt

For the Frosting

  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar icing sugar
  • 4 Tbsp heavy whipping cream double cream
  • ½ cup cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp pure vanilla extract

For the Decoration

  • 2 cups crushed Oreo chocolate sandwich cookies about ⅓ of a package
  • 16 Gummy worms

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F/180°C/Gas 4. Line two cookie sheets with parchment or a nonstick baking mat and set them aside.
  • To make the cookies, use an electric handheld or standing mixer, and beat the butter, light brown sugar, sugar, eggs, corn syrup, and vanilla extract until light and fluffy.
  • Sift or whisk the flour, cocoa powder, cornstarch, salt, and baking soda in a medium bowl.
  • Gradually beat the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until a dough forms.
  • Using a medium cookie scoop, scoop out dough into your hand and roll into a ball. You should get about 18 from the mixture.

  • Place dough balls onto the cookie sheets and lightly press them into a thick disk.
  • Bake in the oven for 15-20 minutes or until firm around the edge.
  • Leave to cool for 10 minutes on the cookie sheet before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely before decorating.
  • To make the frosting, use an electric handheld or standing mixer, and beat the butter, powdered sugar, cocoa powder, vanilla, and cream until combined, smooth and holds a peak.

  • Scoop the frosting into a piping bag fitted with a round tip.
  • Pipe a tight spiral onto the top of each cooked and cooled cookie.


  • Sprinkle the crumbled Oreos on top of each frosted cookie.
