Instructions

  • To create the spider web, arrange three regular craft sticks in a star shape on your work surface and glue them in the middle. Line up six mini craft sticks on your work surface to create the spider. Trim additional craft sticks to the width of the spider and glue them in the middle of the spider.
Arranging Craft Sticks for Craft Stick Spider and Web
  • Basecoat the spider web with white paint and the spider with purple. Leave to dry, and apply a second coat if necessary.
Painting Craft Stick Spider and Web
  • Starting on the outside of the craft stick star shape, glue one end of a white pipe cleaner to the back of the white craft stick spider web. Bend the pipe cleaner in a slight arch, then glue it to the next craft stick to begin the spider web.
Adding White Pipe Cleaners to Craft Stick Web Base
  • Working from the outside to the center, continue bending and gluing the white pipe cleaners around the craft sticks to weave the spider web.
Adding White Pipe Cleaners to Craft Stick Web Base
  • Glue seven googly eyes of different sizes to the top center of the spider.
Attaching Eyes to Craft Stick Spider
  • Cut two black pipe cleaners into four equal lengths with scissors to create spider legs. Glue a black tinsel pom pom to the end of each of the eight spider legs. Glue four legs to the right and left side of the spider in a diagonal pattern.
Attaching Legs to Craft Stick Spider Body
  • Bend the pipe cleaner spider legs to create the knees.

Handy Tips & More Ideas

Handy Tips & More Ideas

  • Pre-paint the Craft Sticks—If you’re crafting with a group and pressed for time, paint the craft sticks in advance. This ensures they are dry and ready to go when it’s time to assemble the spiders and webs. Alternatively, use Acrylic Paint Pens, which will dry more quickly.
  • Pre-cut the Chenille Stems—If hosting a group for this project, pre-cut the pipe cleaners before starting.
  • Use Liquid Craft Glue for Safety—If you’re working with little ones, opt for liquid craft glue instead of a hot glue gun to prevent burns. Just allow extra drying time.
  • Add Some Glitter —For a fun twist, sprinkle some glitter onto the wet paint to make your spider web shimmer! Alternatively, use Glitter Glue Pens to add detail to the bottles.
  • Create Color Variations—Use different colors for the spider. Green and orange work well for Halloween. You could also use neon or Glow-in-the-Dark Paint for a spooky touch!
  • Make Different Sizes—Vary the size of your spider by using bigger or smaller craft sticks, pipe cleaners, pom poms, and eyes.
  • Turn It Into a Magnet—Attach a magnet to the back of the spider for a fun, decorative fridge magnet or to hang on a magnetic whiteboard.
  • Make it a Halloween Gift Tag – Attach your finished spider and web to Halloween treat bags as a unique gift tag for party favors.
  • Display with String—Hang your spider web creation in a window or doorway using some fishing line or string for a floating effect.
  • Seal the Paint for Durability—Protect the paint with a clear sealant like Mod Podge. This makes the spiders more durable, especially if you plan to use it as long-term decorations.
