I was sent a couple of boxes of Barny sponge bears – apple and strawberry flavour – to try out, and the perfect taste-tester for these snacks was my baby niece, Sephy! Since this post is an entry for BritMums ‘Winter Little Adventures Challenge’ sponsored by Barny, individually wrapped bear-shaped sponges with a hidden filling. (Find out more about Barny here!) we decided to go on some winter little adventures in the park!
What follows is the story in words and pictures about the fun that we had!
I went round to my sister’s to see Sephy, armed with two boxes of Barny sponge snacks. As soon as Sephy saw the box, she wanted to investigate! So I opened up a box of them to show her. She already had her coat on ready to go, but really wanted to unwrap a the packet to see what was inside….
…after a little struggle with the packet (and not surprising, she’s only 16 months old!) Auntie Shellbe (me) opened one up for her. After a little look at this new snack to see what it was, she took a bite! “Yuummmm!” she said, as she tucked into the apple flavoured cake! Just the right size for little hands and they smelled yummy too!
I told her that we were going on a little adventure to the park today and shall we go down to get in the car? She stood at the door waiting to be helped down the step, still holding tight to her snack which she finished off in the car on the drive to the park!
When we got to the park, she grabbed my hand and pulled me along – she knew exactly where she was and wanted to show me everything!
Despite the sun shining, it was still chilly and a bit breezy, and I wished I could get away with wearing a snowsuit and hat!! We walked along the path as fast as Sephy’s little feet could manage – she was so excited to be outside and ready to have lots of fun!
We watched as other kids went by on their scooters, and people walked their dogs. Sephy says “woof woof” every time she sees a dog!
Then she let go of my hand, feeling braver now and wanting to show me what she could find…
…and she found lots and lots of sticks! We were going to throw them off the bridge and play Pooh Sticks! If you don’t know what Pooh Sticks are, it’s a little game from the Winnie the Pooh stories, where you throw a stick off one side of a bridge into a stream and watch to see who’s comes out from under the bridge on the other side first! It’s a fun little game – but the most fun is rushing around to find lots of sticks to play with!
With a bundle of sticks now gathered up and being held by Mummy, Daddy and Auntie Shellbe, we carried on the walk towards the bridge and the stream! For a little baby it’s very far!
Soon, the bridge came into sight, and we all stepped onto it to throw Sephy’s collected Pooh Sticks into the water!
Sephy was very excited to be throwing the sticks down into the water and watch as they floated away…wheeeeee!
After throwing lots and lots of sticks into the water, it was time to wipe hands and have a drink…and then ruuuuuuuuun!
We then played hide and seek behind the trees! Where did mummy go?? Oh! There she is!!
Phew! All this running about has made Sephy hungry for another snack!
We found a bench to sit down on, and I opened up another Barny snack for her.
…when asked if she liked them, she nodded! Since Sephy only has a little baby tummy, she couldn’t eat all of this one, but it’s okay, because Daddy finished it off!
We saw more dogs, and looked at leaves on the ground, and even picked up more sticks! But then, she saw that the field was full of seagulls! Off Sephy ran to see what they were up to!
With the wind picking up and the weather starting to feel a lot more cold, it was time to go home! We walked past the tennis courts where Sephy started saying “ball, ball”. We had forgotten to bring one with us and there were a few tears when she realised she couldn’t play with a ball – such a shame! I hate seeing my Sephy cry!
But she grabbed hold of her Daddy’s hand and the tears were soon gone. We found the ball in the car, and she held that tightly all the way home, giving a few yawns too! All that fresh air and running about had tired her out – and I’m not surprised, it was a big little adventure for her!
Oh what fun we had in the park…a great sunny winter’s day full of little adventures! Can’t wait to do it all again soon! What little adventures have you been on recently? I’d love you to share with me in the comments below!
