Over the years Mumsnetters have shared and swapped sure-fire recipes ranging from breakfast to Sunday lunches, and one-pot wonders to party food.
Here is a treasury of the very best. All have been chosen, tried and tested by parents and by the fussiest of eaters – their kids.
If you know me, you know I love a good cookbook, and Top Bananas! is a fabulous compilation of family friendly recipes, shared by parents on Mumsnet – the largest and most influential online community for parents in the UK.
There is something very refreshing about a book for parents, with recipes by parents, making this a great go-to recipe book for all the family; and you don’t need specialist equipment or fancy ingredients to make the recipes in this book!
The book has a wealth of tips and ideas including Getting children to eat, tips for feeding young children, and 10 tips to help kids eat healthily.
Top Bananas! is divided into 12 chapters – Breakfast; Packed Lunch; Soup; One-Pot Wonders; Lovely Veggies; Slow Cooking; Sunday Lunch; Fast Food; Cooking with Children; Party Time; Pudding and Baking. So there is a recipe to cover every meal eventuality in this book! And you know, that since the recipes have been created by parents, that they’re going to suit even the fussiest of eaters in your family.
The recipes are clearly laid out, I don’t think any of them have more than 6 steps to follow, and each have got a bright colourful photograph to accompany the recipe showing you what the finished dish will look like. I always think a photograph is so important in a recipe book, especially if you’re not confident with your cooking skills – it’s nice to see what something should look like!
I’ve haven’t yet had a chance to cook from this book, but I’ve picked out some favourites that will be at the top of my list to try on the family… Breakfast Quesadilla, Cheat’s Chicken Tandoori, The ‘Holy Trinity’ Stew and The Jammiest of Tarts. I’ll report back and let you know how I got on! I may even pass the book over the boy and see how he gets along with following a recipe in here too
You can buy Top Bananas! on Amazon, and it is currently priced at a bargain £13.40! (RRP £20)
