The Dinosaur Museum, Dorchester, Dorset
Home » Travel »The first few holidays that hubs, the boy and myself took together as a family were to Dorset. A place that we adore going to and that has so many things to do, it is insane! We sold it to my son on the dinosaur angle, because it is a World Heritage Site – The Jurassic Coast, so he would tell everyone he was going to The Jurassic Coast on holidays.
On our first trip to Dorset waaaaay back in 2006, we spent one of the days in Dorchester as there were a few different museums to go and visit. This turned out to be a great idea, as it rained all day long! Since it is #MuseumWeek – which I learned about on Twitter – I’ve been sharing visits to different museums that we’ve had over the years.
For Day 5 (you can read the other #MuseumWeek days here) it is The Dinosaur Museum in Dorchester, Dorset. It is one of the only museum in Britain to be dedicated solely to dinosaurs, with actual fossils, dinosaur skeletons and lifesize dinosaur reconstructions. I know that we paid for entry into the museum, and I remember parking the car being quite hard around Dorchester. It is open daily, but do check The Dinosaur Museum Website for the most up to date information.
The museum is laid out over different levels, and it is great for children as the lifesize models of the dinosaurs are just begged to be touched – in fact, it is encouraged! Fab! This is no way a fussy stuffy museum! It’s a real family friendly place, so if you find yourself in Dorset, pay The Dinosaur Museum a visit – you can’t go to the Jurassic Coast and not go and look at dinosaur fossils!

This looks like great fun! I wonder what it’s like now, 8 years later? I’ll have to look it up sometime!
Now following you on Twitter so I can read more interesting adventures!

Your son is a cutie! This would have been brilliant to take my son too when he was little.

We did Dorchester a couple of years ago and went around all of the museums! This one was definitely a big hit with our son. It was great, a tad busy but still great!

Did you do the Mummy museum? We did, but you’re not allowed to take photos inside from what I remember. Most places these days end up being busy don’t they? xx

Yes we did, although it was only a quick look as our son was a bit scared of the Mummies!
