Summer seems but a distant memory now. In amongst the rather crappy weather we had, there were some sunny days, and we spent many of them with family. I should really have written about our summer days back in the actual summer, but since it’s miserable and grey outside, I figured this would be a nice post to bring a bit of sunshine to the day!
Summer days are spent taking random photographs of the plants we have growing in the garden – some end up as my photo of the day for Project 365, others, well, don’t! Thought it would be nice to share some. The water lilies are from the pond in my dad’s garden.
Summer days are spent in the garden and generally have a fun with the family – that includes pets – our cat, Pumpkin, and my parent’s dog, Charlie!
Summer days are spent having picnics and barbecues, because food tastes better out in the sunshine and enjoyed with family! We had several garden picnics over the summer, we have a large garden, and it makes life easier with a toddler (my niece), plus, should the weather take a turn, we can shelter under the gazebo, or run into the house to carry on the merryment!
Picnic food always can be as simple or fancy as you like. I tend to go for ready-made stuff when I’m in a hurry, and Higgidy Pies* are one of those go-to products for me because they can be eaten cold, and pack well in a hamper. Plus, you could just throw away the packaging and pretend you made them – they look homemade after all!
We tried out a selection of pies and quiches – Spinach, Feta & Roasted Red Pepper Quiche; Balsamic Onion and Mature Cheddar Quiche; Smoked English Bacon & Mature Cheddar Quiche; Spinach, Feta & Toasted Pine Nut Pie; and Chicken & Spanish Smoky Chorizo Pie. Lots of interesting and tasty combinations, and a real treat for a picnic.
Summer days are spent blowing bubbles! Bubble blowing was definitely the must-do thing during the summer when my niece came to see us! Whether it was through straws, little bubble bottles or giant bubble wands, I can safely say that bubbles was were it was at in 2015!
Summer days are spent dancing to music! Whilst us adults were having a natter, Sephy was quite happily enjoying the rock tunes from Bon Jovi!
Summer days are spent with family, lots of love, and some story telling too! My niece relished telling me all about her family summer holiday – with tales digging a hole on the beach, putting things in and burying it, and then having a picnic, and then not knowing what happened. But she knows she didn’t get lost!
