I have always loved reading magazines. I remember my teenage years… buying several mags at a time, and bringing them into school, so that my friends and I could have a read and a gossip during lunch break. Magazines helped me through my pregnancy with Liam; and later, they helped me plan my wedding to Steve. I buy all sorts of magazines from trashy tabloid mags, to niche magazines for hobbies and interests – and a lot of different ones in between.
I seem to do a lot of magazine reading on a beach holiday. One thing that does annoy me is that the mountain of magazines I’ve bought takes up a lot of weight in the suitcase… that is a precious commodity, especially when flying on budget airlines! One year I had to painstakingly (for me!) decide which magazines to leave behind, because I couldn’t take ALL the magazines with me… and the rest of the stuff we needed for our Med holiday. Decisions, decisions!
Oh how I wish an App like Readly was available back then – it would have been a lifesaver!
What is Readly?
Think of Readly like Netflix for magazines – you have access to over 1500 magazines, and their back issues – for just £7.99 a month. When you think that one glossy can be 3 or 4 quid, I think that is a bargain deal! There is no limit to how many magazines you read each month, and as soon as a new magazine is available, it’s there to access.
All of those magazines available to read, on one device? Perfect for taking on holiday! And don’t worry about not having an internet connection on the beach – you can download issues to read offline.
There are magazines for all sorts of interests – 33 categories to filter through to find the prefect read for you. From celebrity and entertainment, food and drink, home and garden, to women’s interest, men’s interest, and magazines and comics for children and teens. There are even niche magazines for hobbies like photography, fishing, gaming, and more.
Readly is an app for the whole family. For younger ones, you can set up parental controls, so that they don’t read content that they shouldn’t.
What’s more, you can use the app on up to five different devices, and set up profiles for each reader, so that favourites, and bookmarks can be saved to each person’s preference. So there is no arguing with each other over who can read the magazine next – like my sister and I used to do in our youth!
As well as the access to UK magazines, you can also filter the country to other locations in the world. I love American magazines (I often buy a mile high stack of them when in the States) so seeing that I could read magazines from the US, made me a very happy Readly user.
I’ve made a short video of me using the Readly App, so you can get a feel for what it is like. It is very easy to get lost in different magazines!
If you’re not sure if this is the app for you (but if you love magazines, you’d be crazy not to give it a try!) Readly offer a 2 week free trial (thereafter, £7.99 a month, cancel anytime) or, you can demo it for 2 days, before you commit. Feels like a win-win all around to me!
