Back To Black… To get a black blackbackground, I use tips from this tutorial here. It was for a DSLR, and used an off camera flash, neither of which I have. So I had to try and get a bit creative…
I did start with a dark background already, to give my camera and what I was hoping to achive, a fighting chance, and I also had to
The actual settings on my Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200 were as follows:
- ISO: 100
- F-Stop: f2.8
- Shutter: 1/25
So nothing like what the tutorial said at all! I brought in an outside light source (my table light) and managed to get the look I was after. The background was one of my black lace shrugs, so I know the technique worked. Give it a try – or if you have a DSLR, give the original tut a try.

Here is my photo for day 277 of a flower… with more dust on it than I realised at the time – the shame! However, I kept it in because of the technique I tried out to keep a background completely black, when it isn’t. I have a bridge camera, so whilst I do have a manual setting, I wasn’t sure it was going to work, after finding instructions online for a DSLR. But after a bit of experimentation, I did manage to do it!
