With spring really feeling like it is here to stay, and rumours in the media of a heat wave (we can dream!) it’s a perfect time to dust off the old cobwebs, get out in the fresh air and enjoy a picnic!
This luxurious picnic hamper includes everything you need for a delicious outdoor feast. You’ll love the carefully chosen mixture of snacks and treats, and you’ll appreciate the cutlery and crockery which is included. It sure beats paper plates! The hamper itself is a sturdy wicker basket with a retro look, concealing a variety of edible delights.
I was sent a picnic hamper to review, so I’m going to be telling you all about it.
Hampers are something that I just LOVE! I think they make a really thoughtful gift (especially if you put them together yourself!) or if you’re pressed for time, buying one ready-made is nothing to be ashamed of either! My husband bought a Christmas hamper for his parents, from Hamper Gifts, so before even receiving my hamper to review, I knew to expect a good quality product.
One thing I have always, always wanted to have, is a wicker picnic basket, complete with cutlery and crockery…and I’m delighted to be able to now have one to call my own! We do love a picnic, hubs, the boy and me, but we don’t go out for them nearly enough! With a view to saving money this year on going out, I’m going to be preparing lots of picnics for days out, and the cute wicker basket (which has an insulated layer to keep things cool) is going to get used lots!
Hamper Gifts delivered my hamper by courier and it was well packed in a sturdy cardboard box with lots of protective bubble wrap around the hamper itself, as well as around the glass containers inside the hamper. It’s nice to see such care taken over packaging.
The website told me that I would be receiving the following in my luxury picnic hamper for two…

…however, there were a couple of substitutions, which they do mention in their T&Cs, and they say that the items substituted are of equal or greater value. The items substituted were the flavour of the cheese and the oatcakes.
I fell in love with the wicker basket as soon as I pulled it out of the cardboard box that it came in. I just love the red detailing. I also love that it has an insulated inner so that drinks and food can be kept chilled when out and about. The cutlery and crockery (for two) felt very safe and secure in the straps. Hubs said the only thing missing was a couple of glasses…I didn’t even notice because I was too busy getting excited about a basket >_>
As a picnic hamper, we both (hubs and I) wished there had been more savoury products, maybe a packet of posh crisps or olives? But that’s not to say that everything wasn’t fab – because, everything really was.
Now, because we didn’t have glasses in the hamper, we grabbed a couple from home, and if you’re wondering how on earth I managed to take ice on a picnic, well, our picnic was in the garden because we were busy all day doing some organising in the house!! The juice was tasty and not overly sweet.
We’ve bought cheese from the Snowdonia Cheese Company several times over the years. Their cheese has always been really tasty and full of flavour. This variety – Red Devil (red Leicester with chilli and crushed pepper) was hot, hot HOT! A real kick to it! Although, hubs disagreed with me, and said he didn’t think it was very hot. We cut wedges of cheese and enjoyed it on some tomato and chilli oatcakes and topped with some of the yummy, almost curry flavoured pickle.
The most unusual item in the picnic basket was definitely the pear and apricots in violet syrup. But my oh my, they were divine! Such a sweet fragrant flavour, and I’m one who doesn’t really like floral flavours. The fruit actually offset the cheese just nicely.
We received the cutest little fruit cake to share. Really light, fruity and a lovely crunch on top from the demerara sugar. Wished this cake was a little bit bigger just so we could have had some more later with a nice cuppa!!
Hubs was pleased that the coconut and cherry flapjack wasn’t too coconutty, I was glad to see lots of big fat cherries in it ^_^ The strawberry and cream shortbread was scrumptious. You could really taste the strawberry flavour, and it was nice to have pieces of freeze dried strawberry inside, giving the shortbread a really nice texture. The chocolate buttons, were not hubs’ cup of tea as he really doesn’t like white chocolate. But they’re white chocolate buttons – and tasted white chocolatey. The yoghurt coated nuts and raisins were lovely, the tub seemed to last forever! A really generous amount in there.
It was so nice to be able to sit outside, in the fresh air and the sunshine and enjoy a picnic together. It was also a lovely treat because there were foods in their that we probably wouldn’t buy for ourselves. I need to know where I can get my hands on the violet infused fruit!!
I can’t wait to be able to use our picnic basket again. Whilst it is a picnic basket for two, I felt that there was enough room in the basket for plenty of food for 3 or 4 people – all depends on how much you take on a picnic I guess!
