Lunch at The Ardleigh & Dragon Thai Pub

Hubs was off on Friday and we went out for lunch with my sister to The Ardleigh & Dragon Thai pub in Hornchurch, Essex. It’s our third visit there and the food was just as good as before and we tried a few new things too which is always good when going out!

We got a few starters to share…

Crispy vegetable spring rolls with sweet chili dipping sauce on the side. Crunchy and hot and full of flavour. Sometimes I find veggie spring rolls to be bland, these were far from it.

Duck spring rolls (poh pia phed) with a hoisin sauce on the side – so, so good!

Satay Gai – chicken satay skewers with a very delicious peanut sauce.

Pak Chup – tempura battered vegetables. A light crispy batter with a selection of onion rings, broccoli, mushrooms and bell pepper. Sweet chilli dipping sauce on the side.

My sis and I both had Goong (Tiger Prawn) Pad Thai. This dish is stir-fried rice noodles with egg, beansprouts, carrots, spring onions and pad Thai sauce. You can also have chicken or vegetable pad Thai. It comes with a lime wedge to squeeze over, which gives the dish a lovely sweet tang, and some chopped peanuts for texture and crunch. A very tasty dish.

Hubby didn’t have two dishes (but given the chance he probably would!), but I happened to take two photos of his, which was Phed Pad Hed Horm – roasted duck stir-fried with shiitake mushrooms, bamboo shoots, ginger, peppers, onions, soy sauce and oyster sauce. He got a portion of rice on the side. Thai food is always a bit tricky for my hubs as a lot seem to contain coconut (which he dislikes!) but he enjoyed his dish.

We also ordered a couple of sides to share: Pad Puk Ruam – stir-fried broccoli, carrots, mangetout and green beans in a light soy sauce. Served the right side of crunchy and the soy sauce gave a great flavour to the veggies.

And finally, Roti Canai – Malaysian style flat bread (a bit like an Indian chapatti) with red Thai curry sauce to dip. I’m a bread lover and this was some gooood bread! And the dipping sauce, hubs had to avoid as it was full of coconut!!

Another fab meal at The Ardleigh and Dragon! The food is always hot and well presented, and above all – tasty!
