Fruit & Veggies – Grow Your Own!
Home » Home & Garden »If you read my blog you know that I enjoy cooking. I wish I didn’t have to be on a diet so that I could cook that little bit more often! Part of cooking, is of course, the ingredients…and whilst we do most of our shopping at the supermarket, like most people, we also have a go at growing our own fruit and veggies!
Over the years we’ve grown pumpkin, butternut squash, courgettes, sweetcorn, mushrooms, broad beans, radish, tomatoes, strawberries, cabbage, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, brocolli and chillies. I will be digging in my photo archives (no pun intended!) and sharing old photos with you at some stage, but for now, I’ve got our recent crops from 2012.

Strawberry starting to fruit! |
This year we have planted strawberries, herbs, tomatoes and chillies. We have had a LOT of rain in the UK this year, and the plants have just about survived. Waiting for the tomatoes and chillies to turn red now!

It’s always very exciting to see your little seedlings grow into plants and then bear fruit (or veg), and even more exciting when picking it. I love nothing more than the smell of homegrown tomatoes, freshly picked from the vine! One year we had a glut of them, and I made an awesome roasted tomato and garlic sauce, that I then froze and used to make various dishes throughout the year. We won’t have quite the same glut this year, but I plan on doing the same with what we have got!

Please Turn Red Soon! |
We bought several varieties of chilli plants from the local garden centre – sadly, we lost most of them during some bad rain we had…and I don’t know what the ones that we do have left are! We’ll find out when we use them!! They may be habenero…or jalepeno…good thing we can handle the heat!

Do you grow your own fruit and veggies? What do you enjoy about it? I can’t wait till all ours ripen!

I wish I had time to organise my garden to make vegetable patch.
I only manage to grow seasoning in the pot on my kitchen windowsill ,

It’s always fun and reward to grow your own – even if it is just on the kitchen windowsill :)
