Continuing on in my printable Build An Animals series (which started with Rudy the Rooster), I’d like to introduce to you Digby the Dog! A free printable build-a-dog pattern/template that can be cut and stuck together. The build a dog printable helps children with their cutting and sticking skills, as well as the opportunity to get creative with other materials too – like sticking on pieces of fur fabric, or buttons for eyes for example.

Free Printable Build-A-Dog - Fun Animals Series! Just print, cut, and build a rooster! Great for kids to help with cutting, sticking, and learning about animals.

Build A Dog

It has been a year since that first animal – not much of a series is it?! I have my reasons – 2017 was not a kind year to me – and so many things fell to the wayside on my blog. BUT, I’ve got lots of animals planned so make sure you are following me on social media – links are in the sidebar to keep up to date with new content as it is published!

The animals I create will be anthropomorphic, which basically means that they’ll have human traits – like standing on two legs instead of four.

As with all my printables, they come in two paper sizes – A4 for the UK, and 8.5 x 11″ for the USA (and other countries that use these paper sizes as standard).

Build-A-DogI’ve created two sizes for Digby the Dog: Regular size, which is what you see above, with all of the pieces on one sheet of paper, and Large size with the pieces spread over several sheets.

Since I make my characters from fairly simple shapes, I think they’ll be less fiddly to cut out than Olaf.

The regular size printable is for children that are more skilled at cutting. The large size should be a lot easier for younger children. Or you could cut them out for them. Of course, you know your children, so will know what suits them best!

Download your chosen printable from the list below, and print onto thick paper or thin card. Cut the pieces out, then build a dog! You could stick pieces together with a glue stick, or sticky tape. You could mount it onto a larger piece of paper and use other craft materials to embellish it – furry material, glitter, buttons tissue paper, for example. You could laminate the pieces so that they can be re-assembled over and over again.

I had emails from readers recently asking permission to print my printables at a print shop, because I say “for personal use only” on my files. I’ve now added that you are welcome to get them printed where you like. All I ask is that you please don’t sell my printables, or share them as your own!

If you would like to use a print service online, I’ve been using DoxDirect (a UK company) recently for some of my printing as they don’t have a minimum order, which is perfect for those of us who only need a sheet or two printed. They offer various paper weights, (so I’ve been testing which is best for which project) and is straightforward to use. You upload the PDF direct and choose how many you need. Well worth checking out if you don’t have a printer – or if you want to conserve your colour ink for my colour heavy printables.
