Back in April I received and reviewed a Degustabox a monthly subscription box where you receive a selection of food goodies to try out at home. The value of the contents is more than the subscription, and we all like to get great value for money! The current subscription is £12.99 including delivery. We were sent a December Degustabox which had 9 different products inside and have had a chance to try some of them over the festive period.
December Degustabox Review
Reviewing food is always subjective as we all have different tastes, but there was a nice varied selection of items in this box for December. I think I’d liked to have seen a few more festive items though, given the time of year.
1. Popchips – £1.79
Never fried, never baked and in five different flavours. We received sour cream and onion flavour and the texture and flavour of them were lush! I’ve not seen these in the shops, but when I do, I will definitely pick up a few bags of the other flavours to try out. The bag seemed neverending, which for a big bag of potato chips is a good thing! They are also less than 100 calories per serving, so great if you’re counting the calories.
2. Frylight Infuse Garlic – £2.00
We have been using Frylight for many years in this house, and the garlic infused one is new to me. We have yet to use this in cooking so far, but I can judge from previous experience with their other products that this will be useful in our cooking. There is a suggestion for a lower fat garlic bread using this, which is something I will definitely be trying out. I use a lot of garlic in cooking dishes for the family, so when I’m feeling particularly lazy and can’t be bothered with peeling and crushing garlic, I can grab this bottle and use that instead!
3. The Chia Co. Oats & Chia – £1.70
I have to admit, I’ve not even opened this packet. These just add water oats and chia are made with fruits and coconut oil and are said to give a smooth creamy texture without the need for dairy. Chia is one of those superfoods that is packed with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. I think this product would have suited a January box for the post-Christmas detox!
4. Pukka Green Tea – £2.39
Another item not opened yet. I’m not a fan of green tea, even though I know it’s supposed to be super good for you. I will give these a go though as I like the sound of the lemon flavour added. Again, a good January box item in my humble opinion.
5. Eisburg Non-Alcoholic Wine – £3.49
The description said that this is made exactly the same way as the wine you love, but with the alcohol removed. It’s available in Chardonnay, Rose, Cabernet Sauvignon and Riesling. We cracked open this bottle on Boxing Day. It was quite sweet and I have to say I didn’t notice the difference between this and a regular bottle of wine. A good one for drivers or those watching their alcohol intake.
6. Bonne Maman Orange Marmalade – £2.30
Whenever I see this brand in the supermarkets I think of it as a posh brand for special breakfasts like Christmas morning! And that’s exactly how we used it, spread over croissants whilst opening our presents. It has a tart flavour with lots of shredded peel.
7. Kent’s Kitchen Meal Kits – £2.50
These kits contain 3 key ingredients to make an authentic, delicious meal in 20 minutes. You need to add the fresh ingredients of course, but I do love kits like this as it means it can be on standby in the cupboard to add to meat and vegetables to cook something a bit different for the family. We received a madras kit, but there are other kits available too including tikka masala, chilli con carne and Thai green chilli.
8. Bahlsen Choco Leibniz – £1.79 per box
I have bought these biscuits before and they are gorgeous – a real chocolaty treat! I haven’t seen the caramel ones and oh my gosh, they are divine! Bahlsen are made with the finest continental milk chocolate wrapped around a butter biscuit.
9. Gloworm Mixers – £1.50 per can
These stimulating mixers are specifically blended to compliment a selection of spirits. They are sugar-free and taurine-free. They come in four flavours; Raspberry & Orris for Vodka, Cucumber & Apple for Gin, Pear, Spice & Lime for Rum, Ginger & Lemongrass for Bourbon.
For a Christmas tipple we made a Vodkaglo using a measure of vodka, topped with Raspberry & Orris Glowrom with orange juice and ice.
