With the Star Wars show over, we continued with a wander around the park, not doing very much to be honest and just waiting out the time to our FastPass+ slot!

I did a more thorough walkthrough and description of Toy Story Land in Day 4 of this Trip Report, so won’t go into detail again here, but there will be a few new photos below as they tell the story better than I can. After all, it’s more than 2 years since we actually did this trip to when I’m writing about it!

Toy Story Land Entrance - Woody Statues

You are welcome by a huge statue of Woody as you enter Toy Story Land – a great photo op, but can be crowded! Buzz Lightyear was doing a meet and greet a little further up from here which crowded up the place even more (in my opinion).

Sadly, I do feel like Toy Story Land is a bit cramped with a lot of bottlenecks for the crowds. That said, it’s such a cool area, so bright and colorful, and the theming is fantastic.

This huge Fisher Price Play Family Camper (pictured below) is a merchandise stand, which I think is super cute! And the restrooms look like they’re made of building blocks!

As our FastPass+ time was nearing we crossed over the bridge towards the entrance for Slinky Dog Dash, and I spoke to a Cast Member regarding seat size and fit for me (size UK 32-34+) at this point.

She was very reassuring and said she thought I would be okay to fit, as the lap bars are individual on this ride and just need to be pulled down as close to you as possible. But she offered to take us up to the ride so that I could see the seating, and to explain that the very last car has a little door that can be opened up making it easier to step in and sit down.

We stood and watched a few goes of the ride, with me watching out for similar sized people to see if they were getting on/off. Once satisfied that I would be okay, we were let through when it was our timeslot.

If you are plus size and concerned, below is my photo of the ride seats. You can just see that between the two seats is a slightly raised divider. I did have to be quite snug to my husband (who is a lot smaller than me) but otherwise I was quite comfortable. I pulled the lap bar down to my belly and I was good to go.

The chances are you’ll be able to fit in this ride without issue. If I fit, and I am a very large lady, then I’m sure you’ll fit!

I nearly didn’t book a Fastpass+ for this ride because I thought I “what’s the point, I won’t fit…”, but I booked it anyway, and sought out help from a Cast Member. They are the experts on rides. They see thousands of people every day of all shapes, sizes, and abilities.

In my experience they can usually instantly tell if you’ll be able to ride. I remember on our first trip back in 2011, and I was a lot smaller than I am now (but still plus-size) and I asked at The Mummy Ride in Universal. The ride operator wasn’t too sure as on that particular ride you had to click the bar 3 times to lock. I only managed two, so had to come off and wait for my husband. There was no walk of shame for me, it was discreet, and it was as simple as just stepping off and walking out.

I know it’s tough to be a plus-size person at a theme park – trust me, I’ve done it more times than I care to count these days, but ask for advice from Cast Members, if there is a test seat, try it, and join groups of fellow plus-size folks who can give their experience. YouTube is another good place for finding plus-size people vlogging their ride experiences.

Disney is more forgiving in their rides and attractions than Universal/Busch Gardens/SeaWorld (these are the ones we’ve visited), so for the most part, most plus-size people will be okay at Disney. That said, some rides are not. Notably, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train (Magic Kingdom) and Flight of Passage (Pandora – The World of Avatar, Animal Kingdom) are two that I personally know for sure. The new Tron ride will probably be a no-go for bigger plus-size people too.

It is what it is, there are many factors to take onboard when designing a ride, just sadly, not all sizes can be accommodated.

I didn’t mean to go off on a tangent here about rides and guest sizes – sorry – let’s get back to the ride!

I am so, so, SO glad that I took the chance on Slinky Dog Dash because it was SO MUCH FUN! Full of twists and turns and ups and downs, it really was quite thrilling!

I didn’t even attempt to take photos on the ride, but I think hubby may have taken some video. I’ll have to check my files.

The photos below are of the rollercoaster track at various points of the ride. This is definitely a “ride more than once” ride, but sadly we couldn’t grab any more FP+ times for it, and at the time it was still a very new ride. Maybe on our next trip to Walt Disney World in 2022…

We took a moment to look around the rest of Toy Story Land and watched the Green Army Man show which happens every so often just near the Buzz Lightyear statue and the Alien Swirling Saucers ride.
