August 20th, 2014 …Continued from Part 1…

We parked up easily enough at Blizzard Beach, despite it being late morning by the time we arrived and walked to the entrance.

If you’ve read my Disney trip reports in the past, you know that I love me a bit of themeing around the parks, and Blizzard Beach was no exception! I loved the snow theme going on and mixed in with the heat, bright sunshine and palm trees it was most odd, but in a good way!

The focus of the water park is the big slide – Summit Plummet. Don’t panic, you don’t go flying off the end of the slope like the structure suggests!

I remember we were able to pick up park maps here (I don’t remember them at Typhoon Lagoon) but everything is well signposted so it’s easy enough to find your way about.

To be honest, we didn’t explore the park fully, and mainly hung out in Melt-Away Bay, (a one acre wave pool) or going around the lazy river – Cross Country Creek, which circles around the whole of Blizzard Beach! There are several entrances/exits along the way, and us being the smart party, plonked ourselves near to an entrance!

We did have to walk quite a way around the park to find somewhere to pitch camp for the day – getting to a water park later, often means that a lot of the sun beds are already taken by early birds. But once we found one it was fine. It was also a struggle to find shady spots, so if these things are important to you, get there early.

Trying to find an inner tube to go around Cross Country Creek was a bit of a bind, there didn’t seem to be enough, and you could see several potential ruckus forming, as people grabbed for one when they did become available! Chill people – you’re on holiday!

This was the first time I’d been able to go into the water on this holiday, and I know that we really missed having our own pool like we did at the villa on previous trips! The surroundings on the lazy river were just lovely, and it was nice to just lay back and let the water carry you along.

There are several opportunities to get sprayed with freezing cold water – squirting out of the Ice Gator’s chimney, going into, through, and out of the cave, and spouting out of the snow machine.

At some stage we decided we should get some food – probably wasn’t even all that hungry, but we had spare credits on the dining plan to use!

When it comes to the Deluxe Disney Dining Plan at a quick-service restaurant you are entitled to one entrée, one dessert and one non-alcoholic beverage for one credit per person. You do not have to pay a tip at a quick-service location.

Our nearest dining option when we were at Blizzard Beach was the Warming Hut, so that’s where we went! There were a few benches to eat at, and one became available just as we got our food which was handy. It was also nice to get under an umbrella and into the shade for a little while.

Entrées…

Me: Caesar Salad with Chicken ($8.99)

Him: Pulled Pork Sandwich – served with coleslaw or chips ($9.49)

The Boy: Meatball Sub – served with coleslaw or chips ($9.49)

We all got a fountain drink of some sort – probably Coca-Cola or Sprite – $2.99 (regular) and $3.49 (large) you could get either size on the dining plan, so we got large. The boys both got chips with theirs – remember that it is a packet of crisps, and not our British chips! Having the bags of crisps meant that we could just toss them into our bag to take home (or to snack on later).

I quite like the salads at Walt Disney World quick service counters, whilst they won’t win any awards, they’re good enough for fast food! Both the boys enjoyed their sandwiches.

Dessert here came in the form of a cookie, some cake or an ice cream. We all wanted a Mickey ice-cream, but concerned (of course) about it melting whilst having lunch. However, we learned that they just mark your receipt and you can pick it up when you are finished, which is what we did. I prefer the ice cream sandwich over the bar, but both are lush. I can only liken the former to a Maxi Bon and the later to a Magnum. You can’t visit the World and not have a Mickey ice cream!

Oh, nearly forgot about the Mickey Coconut Patties which we bought earlier in the day at Poly. These actually came home with us to the UK before they got eaten. It was much to my husband’s disgust that I bought these as he despises coconut! But if you like Bounty bars, you’ll enjoy these! They are officially called Mickey Mouse Creamy Chocolate Dipped Coconut Patties!

After lunch it was back to more chilling out in the water…and not much else, so I’ll leave you in this part with photographs of Blizzard Beach!

I’ve always loved the juxtaposition of all the bright coloured themeing alongside plants and foliage, so of course, several nature photos!

By late afternoon I was starting to feel a little bit burnt (despite lots of sun cream!) so we decided to head back home to Old Key West, have a chill out, shower and get ready to head back to the Polynesian Resort for the Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show.
