With a 16 year old son, who would rather be holed up in his bedroom, playing video games and chatting to his mates, my husband coming home at varying times thanks to an unreliable train line, and me, with an increased workload and finding myself working from the moment I get up to the moment I go to bed, with not much in between, it’s not surprising that our family life has become somewhat fragmented. We don’t spend as much time together as a family as we once used to, and it makes me very sad. I know that my son will be wanting to fly the nest soon, so I need to be clinging onto family time as much as I can. Whilst we don’t eat dinner together every night, I do try to make sure that at least once a week, we get together as a family, and not only have dinner, but also have a bit of fun too.
Thanks to Domino’s we had a pizza night, eating straight from the box, (so no washing up to be done!) and then playing a couple of games. It’s been ages since we had take-away pizza, so this was a real treat!
I sent an email to hubs at work that it was going to be pizza night, and to pick a favourite topping from the Domino’s website, I shouted into the boy’s bedroom: “pizza night” and he came straight in to see me and choose a topping that he fancied.
Since we are a family of sharers, I made the executive decision to order half-and-half pizzas, enabling us to have four different toppings across two large pizzas. We had…
- Vegi Supreme: Red onions, green and red peppers, sweetcorn, mushrooms, tomatoes
- New Yorker: Pepperoni, ham, bacon & mushrooms
- Mighty Meat: Domino’s tomato sauce, pepperoni, ham, ground beef, sausage, red onions, mushrooms and mozzarella
- Ranch BBQ: BBQ sauce, chicken breast strips, pepperoni, ground beef, bacon
I saw that Domino’s have a varied selection of toppings including cheese & smoky bacon stuffed crust, Italian style and double decadence, I ordered one pizza with a stuffed cheese crust, and the other with a classic crust.
Domino’s have several deals on (although which, will depend on your local branch), although, I do find with pizza ordering in general, that you can order one thing, add another, and because of various deals, they end up conflicting with each other. I found myself having to put in different combinations to try and get the best price, placing an order for pizza shouldn’t take that long! But once I was happy that I was getting the best price for the various things I had ordered, I sent it through to my local Domino’s and we waited around half an hour for dinner to arrive.
The pizzas arrived piping hot and full of tasty toppings, which of course are the two important things for a good pizza! They all went down well with my clan, although the boy wasn’t too fond of the Ranch BBQ saying it was too sweet for his taste. It just meant we shared the slices out differently.
I also ordered some sides, because we always have sides with pizza! Instead of regular old garlic bread, Domino’s have a garlic pizza bread which is lush. We also ordered twisted dough balls (yummy) and a combo of chicken strippers and potato wedges, which came with two dips. Speaking of dips, you can order these separately, and the garlic and herb dips is delicious, so I ordered a couple of those too to dunk pizza crust into!
I don’t have any photos, but I also ordered a bottle of soft drink and some dessert in the form of a tub of ice-cream and chocolate twisted dough balls. The chocolate dough balls were dark and chocolatey, and yummy with a dollop of ice-cream on top!
I don’t know about you, but we love cold-the-next-day pizza, and we had several slices leftover after this feast! So once we finished our food, we put the leftovers in the fridge, and got down to some serious game playing with a few good old fashioned board games!
