When it comes to buffets on the Deluxe Disney Dining Plan you are entitled to one full buffet (all you care to eat) and one non-alcoholic beverage (usually refillable) for one credit per person.

The buffet area at Chef Mickey’s has two sides which has the same dishes, and meets in the middle. If one side is busy, chances are the other side isn’t, so head over there! Because of the way the buffet is , lines tend to form so you can shuffle along a bit if lots of people are up there at the same time.

Most of the Disney breakfast buffets have the same staples – eggs, bacon, sausages, biscuits and gravy, as well as fruit, cereals, pastries etc. I have noticed that they all have some dishes which are unique to them, and these are the things we (Steve and I at least, Liam isn’t so adventurous for breakfast!) tend to go for to break up the monotony of breakfast food! The turkey hash and the potato casserole are good here.

You can’t go to Chef Mickey’s and not have a Mickey waffle! There are also freshly made pancakes, blintzes (cream cheese filled pancakes) and so many sweet treats, you wonder if it is breakfast or dessert time!

Our server was quite slow to come round to refill our drinks, but she was friendly which is more than can be said for the one we had at Cape May Café!

With breakfast finished, we had a quick look in the shops and pressed some pennies before heading to Hollywood Studios. I’m never sure if the Mickey shaped entrance to the Fantasia store is a giant Hidden Mickey!

We also bought the first of our “take home as gifts” snacks – 3 packs of Chip ‘n’ Dales trail mixes. We bought one of each:

  • Mountain Mix with peanuts, raisins, almonds, cashews and milk chocolate buttons
  • Nature’s Trail Mix with sunflower kernels, raisins, almonds, pumpkin kernels and cashews
  • Spicy Mickey Mix with a hint of Cajun spice includes Mickey pretzels, peanuts and almonds

We have yet to eat them, so can’t say if they’re good or not, but they sound like great mixes of snacks and I think are a bargain for 1 snack credit as they would keep you going all day. What I don’t understand about the snacks though, it says you redeem a snack credit for a single serving, these packs have six servings! Same with a few other items we bought on snack credits, but who am I to argue with Disney logic!

It was nice to not have to worry about paying at the toll gate for the theme parks, just flashed our piece of paper showing that we were resort guest and we were waved through. Soon enough we were parked and on a tram to the entrance.

Disney Hollywood Studios

You can’t escape Frozen at Hollywood Studios – the presence of the film is everywhere! There was an Olaf sculpture near the “Let’s Make Some Memories” board, but the line was quite long just for a photo so we bypassed it for another time.

We picked up an Olaf on a stick (which is a super useful hand fan!) and I bought myself a plush Olaf too (another thing off our bucket list!), took a quick selfie and sent him to our resort with a few other things that we purchased.

After having a couple PhotoPass photographs taken, I suggested that we go and pick up the standby tickets for the Frozen singalong – well, actually, I sent the boys to do that whilst I took photographs!

It was the first time I think we’d ever seen Min & Bill’s Dockside Diner open. It was quite the occasion! Whilst waiting for the boys I went and got myself a free cup of iced water! (top tip that one!) I also bought a bottle of Sprite for Liam (1 snack credit)
