A short post for today talking about another American theme park treat – funnel cake! And what is a funnel cake? It’s a fried, sweet batter snack, tastes like doughnuts (at least to me!) and is made by pouring the batter into hot cooking oil in a circular pattern and deep frying the overlapping mass until golden-brown. They can be served with various toppings – powdered sugar, cinnamon, chocolate, ice-cream, whipped cream…

We have only ever tried funnel cake the once at Walt Disney World, in Epcot World Showcase in the American Adventure. It was pouring with rain, and this snack was on our “must eat in Orlando” list, so we bought a funnel cake to share, topped with ice-cream and chocolate sauce. And then sheltered from the rain to eat our sweet treat. The boy actually had a fried ice-cream instead!!

I’m not sure where else you can buy funnel cakes around the World – I’m sure there must be more than the one location in Epcot!

Have you ever eaten a funnel cake? What is your favourite topping?
