Getting To Magic Kingdom

Did you know that the entrance to Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom is actually more than a mile away from the parking lot? Quite the distance right?! Disney’s first theme park in Florida is built on the opposite side of the man-made Seven Seas Lagoon. You may be wondering how on earth you get over there…well there are several options and that’s what I’m going to be writing about in today’s Wednesday Around The World!

It can take a while to get from the parking lots to Magic Kingdom, so factor that time into your day when you are planning advance dining reservations (ADRs)! When the crowd level is high, it can take longer than you realise.

Once you have parked your car, you will either catch one of the trams or walk (if you’re lucky enough to be parked quite close) to the Transport and Ticket Center (TTC). It will all depend on which parking lot you are directed to. The trams are very frequent and Disney staff (called Cast Members, (CMs)) will direct you.

Top Tip! Take a photograph of the lot and row number you are in so you remember where you are parked at the end of the day – rental cars all look the same!

The Monorail is the quicker option…the Ferryboat, in my opinion is the only option if it is your first visit! The excitement we all, especially me, felt when we saw Cinderella Castle coming into view for the very first time from the top deck of the boat will stay with me forever!

There are 3 Ferryboats which cross the lagoon – Richard F. Irvine, Admiral Joe Fowler, and General Joe Potter. They hold 600 passengers and there are two decks. Stand at the top at the front (if you can) so that you can enjoy the awesome view! The Ferryboats start running about 30-60 minutes before the park opening time and about a 90 minutes after the park has closed.

The waiting time between each Ferryboat is 10-20 minutes depending on the season and the time of day. It takes around 10 minutes to cross the lagoon, but if you’re not in a rush, then enjoy the leisurely ride across the water!

If you want to get from the TTC to Magic Kingdom a lot more quickly, then walk up the ramp and catch the Monorail.

There are two loops on the Monorail system at Walt Disney World, one services Magic Kingdom, the TTC and the resort hotels in the area – Contemporary, Grand Floridian and Polynesian. The other services Epcot. The station is clearly signposted so that you get on the correct one!

There are two monorails that go to the Magic Kingdom – one is the Express which runs from the TTC to Magic Kingdom and the other is Resort which stops at all the resorts as well. This means you can visit the resorts on the route and is something we enjoy doing!

And finally, if you’re staying at one of the Disney Resorts (or even if you’re not, anyone with a ticket to the theme parks can use Disney Transportation) you can catch the bus! These run from the resort hotels to Magic Kingdom (and of course all of the other theme parks). Bus wait and ride times will all vary, so check the timetables at your resort.
