Characters in Flight at Downtown Disney

Today I’m going to tell you about Characters in Flight, which is located at Downtown Disney. It is a tethered balloon ride which ascends 400 feet in the air and is the world’s largest helium balloon!! You are treated to a 360-degree view of the Downtown Disney Resort Area and there is a charge to ride the balloon.

Sadly, we have yet to experience this, because the five times we’ve tried to go on it, the ride has been closed due to inclement weather – i.e, thunder and lightening storms. I hope that this summer we’ll finally be able to go up in it! So instead, here are some of my photographs of Characters in Flight, which is just awesome to look at! Hopefully, in my next trip report, I’ll be able to share photos from up in the air.

Custom-built for Disney by Paris-headquartered company Aérophile S.A., the Aéro30 illuminates to showcase the silhouettes of its beloved Disney characters and is filled with 210,000 cubic feet of helium. The balloon’s 19-foot-diameter basket holds up to 29 people plus one Aérophile-certified pilot per “flight.” Guests on board will be treated to stunning vistas up to 10 miles away!
