We love to visit museums, although, don’t do it nearly enough! I thought it would be fun on The Purple Pumpkin Blog this week to share 7 days worth of museums that we have visited over the years with you.

I’m kicking the week off with The Sherlock Holmes Museum which is located, of course at 221b Baker Street, London.

We visited The Sherlock Holmes Museum back in 2008, so Liam is looking very young in these photographs!

Sherlock Holmes and Doctor John H. Watson lived at 221b Baker Street between 1881-1904, according to the stories written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The house is protected by the government due to its “special architectural and historical interest”, while the 1st floor study overlooking Baker Street is still faithfully maintained for posterity as it was kept in Victorian Times.

Step back in time, and when you visit London, remember to visit The World’s Most Famous Address – 221b Baker Street – the Official Home of Sherlock Holmes!

Holmes’ study makes you feel like you’ve stepped back in time!

I mentioned to hubs that I was writing up about our visit to The Sherlock Holmes Museum and he said he still had the card that he picked up on our visit! So he took a photo and sent them to me and here it is!

As I said, we went to this museum 6 years ago now, so memory is hazy…I asked hubs to write a little bit about it…

From what I recall, I think it was set over about 3 floors and is basically like just walking into a house.

On one of the floors, which I think was the first, you could actually dress yourself up in some of Holmes’s clothes, although I know Liam didn’t seem to keen, plus you could then get a photo taken as well.

On the other floors were various items of clothing, plus furniture and other Sherlock Holmes related items, such as props, books and posters advertising the books.

There was of course also the obligatory gift shop as well. I don’t think it actually took us too long to walk around. I’m sure we were done in about 30 minutes. But I guess, if you wanted, you could have taken longer to immerse yourself in the experience.
