My Top 10 Disney Movies – Animated Classics

A quick post from me today for 100 Days Of Disney 2015 – my top 10 Disney Animated Classics… which was a harder to put together list than I thought it would be. I nearly changed it to a top 20, because I know I’ve left out several more of my favourites!

I certainly couldn’t put them in any order, so I’ve just put them in alphabetical order instead – I know it’s a cop out, but I can’t decide which is my all-time favourite Disney Animated Classic!

Why I LOVE Aladdin

• Robin Williams – as the Genie he is BRILLIANT. I know that he ad-libbed a lot of his lines and this made for some great comedy.
• The Soundtrack – so kid’s these days singing Frozen songs all the time – back in 1992, it was the songs from Aladdin! My sister and I always used to sing the duet, A Whole New World.
• I can recite the whole film – yeah, I’m weird!

Why I LOVE Beauty and The Beast

• Tale as old as time – it’s a love story, and who doesn’t love a love story?
• It’s a musical – the all singing Disney movies are the best!
• Lumière & Cogsworth – two sidekicks, who are very funny!
• The dance sequence – it’s a stunning piece of animation.
• Belle – she’s beautiful and intelligent, and wants more than this provincial life!

Why I LOVE Lilo & Stitch

• the music of Elvis – I LOVE Elvis Presley and the fact that his songs feature throughout this film pleases me!
• Lilo – she’s too darn cute for words, and I hate the way she gets picked on!
• Stitch – he’s a little bit of a rogue to start with, but oh my, by the end of the film do you fall in love with him!
• ohana – means family. Family means nobody gets left behind, or forgotten ♥
• the dancing – the Hula, the Elvis, the all of it!
• it still makes me laugh – and I’ve seen this film several times!

Why I LOVE Robin Hood

• Robin Hood – he’s a fox for a start, and he’s so handsome ;) Plus he’s the swashbuckling hero!
• Little John – he’s like Baloo (from Jungle Book) but with clothes on :P
• Lady Kluck – Maid Marian’s attendant is hilarious – she’s so boisterous and gives as good as she gets!
• The Whistle Stop song – come on, whistle along!
• The classic story – I love the story of Robin Hood, he’s the ultimate good guy!

Why I LOVE Sleeping Beauty

• Maleficent – she has always been my favourite Disney villain! I love her style, her voice, and she’s beautiful too
• Flora, Fauna & Merryweather – these three good fairies provide the comedy element to this fairy tale
• The pink/blue dress – I can never decide if I prefer Princess Aurora in pink or blue! The running gag where two of the fairies argued about what colour her dress should be comes from the filmmaker’s problem as to what the colour should be
• The musical score – it’s hauntingly beautiful
• Once Upon A Dream – possibly one of my favourite songs from a Disney movie
• The kiss – it’s the moment I’m waiting for after the epic battle between the Prince Phillip and Maleficent

Why I LOVE Tangled

• The songs – it felt like for a long time, Disney movies forgot how to sing! There are some lovely songs on the soundtrack. My favourite is ‘When Will My Life Begin?’
• The sidekicks – Maximus (the stallion) and Pascal (the chameleon), neither of them speak, but both are hilariously funny!
• The hair – Rapunzel’s hair is AWESOME – it’s so long, and it’s magical, and she can use it as a swing!
• The adventure – everything outside the tower is all new to Rapunzel, and it’s great to watch her experience it all!
• Flynn Rider – he’s hot. There, I said it! Come on girls, you know I speak the truth bwahahah!

Why I LOVE Tarzan

• The soundtrack – without a doubt, I watch this movie to listen to the amazing songs. Oh the drum beat from Phil Collins’ music is just awesome!
• Terk and Tantor – they are the hilarious sidekicks, and quite frankly, young Tantor’s voice is the cutest Disney voice ever!
• The discovery – watching Tarzan as he learns more and more about his kind, human beings, is fascinating…and his eyes, oh his eyes…
• The yell – what Tarzan film is complete without that famous yell? It’s actually voiced by Brian Blessed, who voices Clayton!
• The tree-tops – the animators made Tarzan ‘skateboard’ along the tree branches and limbs, and the whole animation of these sequences, as well as the jungle rainforest is just stunning.
• The soundtrack – yes, I know I’ve already, said it, but it’s so amazeballs, it needs to be said again!

Why I LOVE The Emperor’s New Groove

• the cast – they are all just brilliant, and brilliantly funny. Eartha Kitt is perfect as the evil Yzma, and David Spade’s sarcastic voice works fantastically as the selfish Emperor Kuzco!
• it’s hilarious – and I mean, laugh out loud, tears in your eyes hilarious. I mean, that might just be me, but it is definitely one of the funniest Disney animated movies!
• the waterfall scene – watch above! I don’t know why it’s so funny, but it cracks me up!
• Kronk – he’s so stupid, yet so loveable – even as an evil sidekick! He just wants to be a cook dammit!
• Pacha, Chicha and their children – such a loving family unit! And the two children are so funny!
• the theme song – Tom Jones is the theme song guy – what could be more awesome than that?

Why I LOVE The Lion King

• The opening scene – (above) is, I think, the best opening scene of any animated movie. Ever. From the first moment I hear the African chant, to the drum beat of the final moment, I’m swept away with such emotion, and I cry, every single time I hear The Circle of Life.
• (Oh, and the lyric for the opening chant of “The Circle of Life” is: “Nants ingonyama bagithi Baba / Sithi uhm ingonyama / Nants ingonyama bagithi baba / Sithi uhhmm ingonyama / Ingonyama Siyo Nqoba / Ingonyama Ingonyama nengw enamabala”,  translates as: “Here comes a lion, Father / Oh yes, it’s a lion / Here comes a lion, Father / Oh yes, it’s a lion / A lion We’re going to conquer / A lion A lion and a leopard come to this open place”.)
• Hakuna Matata – is a song we should all learn and sing. Regularly! It means no worries doncha know! Plus, it’s a great growing up montage song!
• The animation – it’s hand drawn, it’s classic, it’s beautiful!
• Timon & Pumbaa – I love these guys – they’re so funny!
• Rafiki and the Squashed Banana song – a funny moment, but one which ends up being so touching by the end of the scene. (‘Asante sana Squash banana, Wewe nugu mimi hapana’ is Swahili for “Thank you very much, Squash banana, You’re a baboon and I’m not.)
• The epic cloud scene – oh man, dem feels! Remember who you are. (I could talk about all the feels in Mufasa’s death scene, but I can’t love the film for that bit can I? It’s too sad!!)
• The blooper reel! – seriously, I have JUST discovered this, it says it’s from The Lion King 3D which was released in 2011, and it’s hilarious! But then, I do love a blooper reel!
• The stage show – I’ve seen this at the theatre in London, as well as the Festival of the Lion King at Animal Kingdom, Walt Disney World, and they’re just as awesome as the film. The theatre show in London especially – I lost it (emotionally) from the minute the music started, and was sat next to someone who was equally emotional and we hugged and cried together – both pleased that we were not the only ones!!

Why I LOVE Treasure Planet

• The pirate theme – I love pirates!
• Captain Amelia – she is one sharp-witted Captain!
• The twist on a classic novel – I love the outer space backdrop with aliens and humans living side-by-side!
• The animation – it’s a combination of traditional hand drawn 2D animation on top of 3D computer animation!
• The loveable sidekick, Morph – he’s so squishy!
• The soundtrack – the final song is awesome!
