Day 14 – Cook, Craft, Create: December 2012

After making my gingerbread family, I thought it would be cool to be able to give them out as a gift, so for day 14 of Cook, Craft, Create: December: 2012 I’ve put together a Gingerbread Making Kit! It’s so cute!!

I say that the idea stemmed from these guys…

…but really, it stemmed from this cute little case that I bought! How sweet is this?! I bought it from a shop called Tiger – they sell some really funky, unique items in there – I just had to buy this, knowing that I would use it to make a gift with :)

So, how did I put this kit together? Well, to start with I bagged up each individual gingerbread (wo)man into plastic bags and tied up with white and red striped pipe cleaners. You may think you’ve seen those pipe cleaners before, and you’d be right! I used them to make my Christmas Grab Bags! As my son has been opening each bag, he’s been saving them for me to re-use ^_^

So with the gingerbread family all bagged up, I then poured sprinkles into smaller bags and tied up with some ric-rac ribbon, and bought some icing tubes to go into the kit as well.

You need cutters to make the gingerbread men with, so in with those, and of course, a recipe is required! So I put one together and made a recipe sheet to go into the kit. I’ve provided that here for you so that you can print it off and use it if you put together a kit of your own to give to someone ^_^ Just click the download link underneath the image below.

So with all the parts of the kit ready, I assembled them into the cute gingerbread case – lining it first with some tissue paper and arranging everything in…you could, if you wanted, wrap cellophane around the case so that you present it all open – which I think would look so lovely!

Or, if you don’t have cellophane (which I didn’t – I’ve run out), put everything into the case and shut the lid!

I had so much fun putting this gingerbread making kit together, and I hope to do a couple more homemade gifts like this before Christmas – although, right now I think I’m pushing it!! Only 10 days to go!
