I’ve been super busy over the weekend – on Saturday I spent the afternoon batch cooking for my family as well as preparing 10 days worth of food for my sister and brother-in-law who (if you follow my blog, will know) have just had a new baby girl. I thought it would be nice for them not to have to worry about cooking for a little while, whilst they learn all about parenthood. I remember how hard that was when I had my son, and now I can give the benefit of my parental wisdom (wow, that makes me feel old!) and help out where I can!

In addition, I haven’t forgotten about Crafty October, and am working on a craft for today (that may or may not get posted later on), as well as the remaining days of October – I think I’m actually going to end up with more craft ideas than days!

For day 20, I present to you my (finally!) finished Amigurumi Crochet Pumpkins!

The reason I say finally, is because I bought these patters last Halloween, and only made one of them in time (the large round pumpkin). I then sat and crocheted the smaller pumpkin and they then got put away for another year! And since I wanted to have a complete set, I dug out my wool, crochet hook and pattern and got to work!

I bought the pattern from The Itsy Bitsy Spider’s Etsy Shop, and she has some awfully cute patterns for sale.

Over on her blog, there are free patterns as well; a new one up is for cute little candy corn characters which I am totally going to make before Halloween is here! Why not pay a visit?

Since I’ve not crocheted for a long time, it took a moment to get back into the swing of using the hook, remembering the stitches and how to follow a pattern. But, like riding a bicycle, you never forget, and I was soon happily crocheting away. I even said to my husband how I should crochet more often as I really enjoy doing it.

I prefer amigurumi to regular crochet, since I just can’t seem to follow a regular crochet pattern, but I will master that skill some day!

I’m so glad I finally have the whole set now, and plan on picking up my hook and thread for some more crocheting this week!

What is Amigurumi?
Amigurumi (編み包み) is the Japanese art of knitting or crocheting small stuffed animals and anthropomorphic creatures. The word is derived from a combination of the Japanese words ami, meaning crocheted or knitted, and nuigurumi, meaning stuffed doll. Amigurumi are typically cute animals, but can include inanimate objects endowed with anthropomorphic features, as is typical in Japanese culture [Source: Wikipedia]
