When it comes to visiting Orlando and Walt Disney World, a trip isn’t complete without a few visits to Downtown Disney…

World-class restaurants, dazzling entertainment and unique shops line the waterfront at Downtown Disney area. Shop in the world’s largest Disney store, dine amid life-size prehistoric creatures, bowl a game at the 30-lane alley and more. This fun-filled district includes Downtown Disney West Side, Downtown Disney Marketplace and Pleasure Island. Parking and admission to Downtown Disney area are complimentary. – Walt Disney World

…there is lots to see and do and plenty of shops to browse and spend [lots of!] dollars in! I’m going to share with you some of my photographs from our visits to Downtown Disney over the years. Hopefully showing you what we love about Downtown Disney! As well as some of the things we’d love to do!

I’ll start with DisneyQuest® Indoor Interactive Theme Park which we went to for the first time in 2013 Admission to DisneyQuest Indoor Interactive Theme Park might cost an additional fee and is a great place to hang out for a few hours, especially if you are hit by one of Orlando’s tropical downpours of rain!

It just so happens that the afternoon we went to DisneyQuest was during a particular heavy rain shower, but inside we were a world away from that! There are five levels of retro video game machines (all free!) including Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Frogger and even Fix It Felix (from the film Wreck-It Ralph), virtual rides like Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle for Buccaneer Gold and CyberSpace Mountain, which hubs and the boy went on whilst I went to try my hand at drawing Goofy at the Animation Academy.

We had great fun at DisneyQuest and spent a lot longer in there than we thought we would!

Splitsville Luxury Lanes™ is a new bowling alley which wasn’t at Downtown Disney when we first went in 2011, and we didn’t manage to get inside and have a game on our previous trip. As a family, we do love to get competitive and throw some bowling balls down the alley towards the pins, and the fact that they have Disney emblazoned on them makes it, for me, even more awesome! There is an extra cost to bowl in here, and you can check the Disney website for the most up to date prices.

Another place we’ve yet to go is the AMC Movies at Downtown Disney 24, a huge 24 screen movie theatre. Actually, if I remember rightly, I had hoped to be able to go last year, but we just didn’t fit it in! We may well get the chance to go this summer, as we are staying on resort at Disney and will be looking for other things to do to fill some of our evenings. We usually stay in a villa and so often venture out to eat in the evening and hang out in our swimming pool!

House of Blues is a concert venue and we went to the House of Blues Gospel Brunch in 2013 which was fantastic! There is also a restaurant next door, which we are planning on dining at on our first night in Orlando.

There are several other entertainment venues including La Nouba™ by Cirque du Soleil®, live Irish music and dancers at Raglan Road, live music at Paradiso 37 which we went to for our 2nd wedding anniversary in 2011 and for the little ones there is DJ Kids Dance Party at Waterside Stage where you and your kids can cut some shapes to the music!

I’ve already told you all about Characters in Flight on day 10 of #100DaysOfDisney, but here’s another photo for good measure! Fingers crossed the weather is kinder to us this summer and we can actually have a ride up in the balloon!! The tent like construction at the back is the theatre for Cirque du Soleil®

I’ll tell you all about shopping and dining at Downtown Disney in another Wednesday Around The World post in the coming weeks! I hope you enjoyed reading about the entertainment here, and as I was writing this post, I realise just how much we would still love to do, but have yet had the chance to – there’s always the next, next holiday ;)
