Halloween Gingerbread Fiends
Home » COOK » Recipes » Holiday Recipes » Halloween »Welcome to Day 5 of Crafty October – a month of Halloween ideas at The Purple Pumpkin Blog! Don’t forget to check out last year’s ideas if you need more inspiration.
Another quick and easy creation for today – Halloween Gingerbread Fiends! For speed today, I bought some ready made gingerbread men, but of course you could make your own from scratch and use different shapes too if you wanted – bats, cats and owls would work well! And you don’t even have to use gingerbread cookies, use your favourite plain biscuit dough instead.
To turn your regular gingerbread men into Halloween Gingerbread Fiends, you’re going to need some tubes of icing – you can buy them ready made in the supermarket these days in lots of different colours, and, if you like, use sprinkles to decorate. I used some eye balls, a heart and some pumpkin sprinkles to decorate my fiends.
You could make an army of skeletons or mummies, or you could create lots of different designs – the limit is your imagination!
For the skeletons, simply pipe circles for the eyes and then pipe bone shapes for the arms and legs – two little balls at each end of a line. For the ribs, a straight line and lines across, and the mouth has a slightly curved line with tiny lines piped over the top. If you make a mistake, quickly wipe it off and start over!
I bought a large tube of white piping icing and it had a set of nozzle attachments. One piped out flat ribbons so I immediately thought to use that to make the bandages of a mummy! Two little eyes were piped on using black icing.
I then made voodoo dolls by using similar techniques – lines of icing with strips piped over in the opposite direction. And then decorated with various sprinkles.
I love my little Halloween Gingerbread Fiends – dare I say it, they’re cute! These would make great party favours – just wait for them to dry and then pop inside a plastic food bag and tie up with ribbon, or place inside shallow boxes filled with tissue paper.
This is also a great Halloween activity to do with the kids, just for fun, or if you are having a Halloween party. Lay out the biscuit shapes, some icing tubes (you can buy small ones, ideal for little hands) and some sprinkles and let them go nuts! I hope you have fun making these – I know I did!
I am hosting a month long Halloween Link Party to celebrate Crafty October and would love for you to share your Halloween ideas – crafts, recipes, costumes, parties…anything goes, as long as it is family friendly! It’s my favourite time of year, (as you may well know!) and I can’t wait to see what you link up!

I say giving them icing pens and sprinkles and let them go nuts!
