As it’s Father’s Day this Sunday I thought I’d look back and share some of my favourite recipes for a BBQ – who doesn’t love a barbecue? Hubby loves ’em and my dad loves ’em….a BBQ is a dad domain thing isn’t it?!

If the sun isn’t out, you can still make all of these recipes and have them indoors..let’s hope the sun comes out for the dads this weekend :D Here are my Father’s Day BBQ Ideas!

Every BBQ needs a burger! We bought a smoker last year and it helped to give us the juciest, tastiest burgers ever! Or turn your burgers inside out and put the cheese in the middle of the meat!

I always think it is nice to try out something new on the grill. I took a traditional Cypriot dish of afelia (pork marinated in coriander and red wine) and put the pork steaks on the barbecue…delish!

How about some salads and sides to go with that that barbecued meat?! I’ll start with a simple Greek salad – my favourite!

When putting together a last minute BBQ I want things to be as easy as possible and I created this antipasti pasta salad last year – it was yummy!

Or how about a throw it all in the bowl and give it a stir bean salad?

I always have a dip or two (or three..or more!) at a barbecue. The main one is always hoummus/hummus, and after making my own whilst on our month long detox, I’ll never go back to shop bought again!

Guacamole is another dip that is super easy to make and a kajillion times better than the gunk you buy in the supermarket! Make it from scratch – you’ll thank yourself!

And now a couple of hot sides – barbecued corn on the cob always takes me back to holidays in Cyprus as a child! Serve sprinkled with lots of sea salt!

The grill isn’t just for meat – wrap up par-boiled potatoes in some foil and throw onto the charcoal!

And finally something sweet! I didn’t think I could make ice-cream at home, but I did, and it was very easy and quick to make! I made strawberry as well as mango ice-cream using just a few simple ingredients. I plan to try out some other flavours this year.

And to end with, a deliciously retro pineapple and coconut upside down cake! I must make this again soon, but without the coconut cos my hubs hates the stuff!

Happy Father’s Day to all the guys out there who take on that role…dads, step-dads and grandads! xx
