Teppan Edo, Epcot

Now, despite cancelling a lot of our Disney Advance Dining Reservations due to us feeling that they were over-priced, I was looking forward to this one at Teppan Edo in Epcot because you got to see the chef preparing and cooking the dishes in front of you on the hotplate.
We climbed up the stone steps to the restaurant and then more stairs into the restaurant itself. We were given a pager and told that our table would be communal, which I guessed from pictures I had seen of Teppan Edo. We waited for maybe fifteen minutes before our pager went nuts. Once the whole table of nine was ready, we were lead into the restaurant.
Liam got talking to the boy in the party of three next to us and I chatted with the parents. Steve was a little too far away to join in! They were from Pennsylvania and the boy was telling us that he wanted to learn how to speak English lol. I said to him “but I’m English, can you understand me?!” and he laughed. His mum explained that he wanted to speak English like Harry Potter (posh?!) and that they just love HP and the British people. The mum was wearing a Gryffindor tie!
Given our menus to look at, Steve and I decided to have appetizers of a sushi roll platter ($9.50), tempura ($8.50) and edamame ($4.50) (we love our Japanese food!).
I needed baby chopsticks to be made for me (the waitress skilfully used the wrapper and an elastic band!)…as I’m useless using them lol! I’m sure you could ask for a knife and fork, but where is the fun in that?
Everyone else on the table were on the Disney Dining Plan and didn’t bother with starters, so they had to wait for us to finish before the chef came out to cook up a show!
Our main meal was udon noodles with onion, mushrooms and courgette and a small bowl of plain white rice. I chose fillet and prawns ($29.95), Steve chicken and filet ($28.95) and Liam had chicken ($22.95). Before cooking the chef checked to make sure if anyone was allergic to seafood.
Steve filmed the chef as he prepared our meal (I’ve uploaded the video Steve took (it’s in two parts) to YouTube here and here.) and it was fantastic to watch the chef ‘perform’ and prepare your meal – that is what you are really paying for as the food I don’t think was quite worth $30 per person.
I guess you go to America with this notion that the portions are going to be humongous, and I’ve had more noodles in my chow mein from the local Chinese! Anyway, regardless of that, the steak was delicious and the portion, whilst smaller than I was expecting, was plenty, especially since we also had a starter. So to be fair, I’d have ended up leaving some of it had it been any more. Drinks were refills and I think included, or maybe not, I’ll have to check the receipt….*checks*…no, they were extra at $2.95 each. Our total bill was $120.56, with a tip it was just over $140. Would definitely go back here, was a great experience and the food was very good.
