All the way back in August, the three of us went to The Making of Harry Potter Studio Tour, which was fab. Before going, we went out for a late lunch/early dinner at TGI Friday’s in Watford. Here’s how it went down!
Walked in, and there was no staff to be seen, which was annoying as we were in a semi-rush knowing we had to be at the studio tour for a certain time…eventually a waitress passed by and sat us at a table. We ordered some soft drinks (which are free refills) and we took a look through the menu. Our waitress was really friendly, helpful and enthusiastic, which was nice to see, and we tipped her well because of her good service.
We ordered mains and some sides, and managed to find room for dessert
The boy went for a full rack of Double Glazed Ultimate Ribs:
Our biggest ever, fall-off-the-bone tender ribs, smothered in a deep, sticky glaze. Served on a skillet with our creamy, zingy cilantro-lime coleslaw, Cajun-battered onion rings and crispy fries. Beer BBQ Glaze Mouth-watering rich flavor of beer, chipotle chili with the sweet taste of blossom honey. Half Rack or Full Rack) Jack Daniel’s® Glaze Our famous sweet ‘n’ smoky glaze with Jack Daniel’s® Tennessee whiskey. (Half Rack or Full Rack)
He polished most of it off, with a little help from the hubster! He also managed to squeeze in some extra onion rings and cheesy garlic bread. He enjoyed his [huge!] plate of food, and I sneaked in a taste of rib – for blog writing purposes of course – and they were very tender, fall off the bone – quite sweet, which is one of the reasons why they boy didn’t finish them off as he’s not overly fond of sweet BBQ.
The cheesy garlic bread was nice, and the onion rings had a cripsy texture with a spicy kick to them. The cilantro-lime coleslaw, which the boy didn’t want, but I had a taste of, was flavourless I’m afraid to say. I was going to order it as a side, but glad that I didn’t.
My hubs ordered a Texan Wild Boar Burger:
Wild? It’s furiously flavorful! A meaty, 5oz* wild boar burger piled with caramelized apple wedges and tangy Dijon mayo, on a tasty brioche bun with fresh oakleaf lettuce, red onion and beef tomato. Served with a side of sweet, tangy apple and Calvados sauce.
Unfortunately, he was less than impressed with it. If the apple sauce had Calvados in it, we couldn’t taste it. A shame, as it sounded like a great tasting burger!
To share, we ordered a side of Jack Daniel’s® Shrimp:
Crispy, plump, Cajun-battered shrimp, ready for dipping in our famous Jack Daniel’s® sweet ‘n’ smoky glaze. Served with seasoned vegetables and crispy fries.
Now, these were good! Huge shrimp in a crispy batter – very tasty!
For my main, I ordered a French Canadian Chicken Burger:
Not your boring chicken burger. A grilled chicken breast basted with sweet Canadian maple syrup and topped with crispy bacon and creamy melted French brie, on a classic toasted bun with cos lettuce, beef tomato and red onion. Served with a creamy garlic mayo.
I swapped my fries for sweet potato fries instead, which were delicious – and a nice change from regular fries too. I really enjoyed my burger, which had a lot of great flavours going on. Would order this again!
Onto desserts…the boy went for a Cookies & Cream Sundae:
Irresistible Oreo® cookies in soft vanilla flavor ice cream with ribbons of fudge and Oreo® pieces, smothered in rich chocolate sauce. Topped with a whip of cream and an Oreo® cookie.
Hubs ordered Mocha Mud Pie:
A frozen chocolate flavor mousse and coffee ice cream, layered on delicious chocolate biscuits and finely crushed Oreo® cookie pieces. Topped with white chocolate flavor pieces and drizzled with chocolate flavor fudge sauce. Wickedly indulgent.
And having missed out on a proper waffle when we went back to the Olympics, I ordered Apple Waffle Crunch:
A warm, sweet waffle topped with cinnamon-spiced apple & oatmeal crumble, served with vanilla flavor ice cream & caramel sauce.
All were eaten…all were good! Mine especially so! Warm waffle with melty ice-cream and sauce, and a crunchy crumble on top…what’s not to love?! Looks like I picked right from the menu
We went to TGI Friday’s because we were missing the USA, and because we felt that by doing this and Harry Potter, and squinting at the sun, we could just imagine being back in Florida!
TGI’s is a great restaurant – despite the couple of let downs on some of the food, and I think that they have a fab menu with lots of tasty sounding dishes. They also have an extensive cocktail menu, which we didn’t order from, but would be nice to go back and sample a few
Our waitress was enthusiastic, friendly and it was a pleasure to be served by her :) It’s a place we don’t go very often, but it’s worth it for a special day/night out!
