Welcome to the final few posts in my Flashback Friday’s series about our wedding day.
Music plays a big part in most wedding days, with music before, during and after the ceremony, the first dance, the daddy/daughter dance, the last song of the night…I thought the easiest way to tell you all about the music on our wedding day was to direct you to the posts on my old blog, 98 Days and Counting, that I kept in the run up to our wedding back in August 2009. It’s nice having that blog there to remind me how I felt at that time, and it was fun to read back
You’ll be able to read why we made the choices we did. Whenever I hear these tunes, I am instantly transported back to our wedding day and the happiness, joy and love that was felt all around <3 p="p">
Whilst the guests were waiting for the arrival of hubby and I, we played some background music. Our choices were ‘Canon in D’ by Johann Pachelbel, ‘Ode to Joy’ by Beethoven, ‘Falling in Love’ by Tim O’Neill and we did find an instrumental of ‘Eidelweiss’ in the end
The song I chose for walking down the aisle toward my future husband was ‘From This Moment’ by Shania Twain. It’s beautiful. I can’t listen to it without having a prickle of a tear in my eyes.
During the signing of the register, we had two songs played. One was ‘I Knew I Loved You’ by Savage Garden. If you know me, you would expect that
The other song was ‘A Moment Like This’ by Leona Lewis. This was also the song which we had for our wedding DVD montage.
We had a few choices for our recessional song, that would be played as we walked back down the aisle as husband and wife…but decided on another Shania Twain track – ‘Forever and For Always’ I love it!
It looks to me like I kept it a secret what our first dance song would be, but I can share it now The song we chose was ‘Your Song’ sung by Ewan McGregor in the film Moulin Rouge. It was one of the first films we watched together, and the lyrics just fit…we both prefer this version over the original (sorry Elton!). Now this song, makes us both blub! Doesn’t matter where we hear it…it’s OUR SONG. On the wedding day I think we both cried all the way through! Not tears of sadness, but tears of elation and joy – and I remember saying to my husband that this was the best day of my life.
After that first dance together as husband and wife, I danced with my daddy…I chose ‘Isn’t She Lovely?’ by Stevie Wonder, who is one of my favourite musicians, and because I know that he wrote that song for his daughter Such a lovely moment getting to dance with my dad on my wedding day, and it was great fun too, especially when we look back at the DVD and see my dad having a boogie during the intro!
Another song that I wanted to have on the playlist was ‘So Beautiful’ by Darren Hayes. The song came out in 2005, the same year I met my husband. Darren song is so full of love, because he is in love…and that’s why it’s so beautiful.
Our final song of the night was ‘Love is in the Air’ by John Paul Young from the film Strictly Ballroom. We thought it was fun and different, and we’d already had ‘(I’ve Had)The Time of My Life’ by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes at our engagement party!
All these songs take me back to our wedding day…in just two days time, it is our 3rd anniversary – I don’t know where the time has gone!
